A new global launch is happening today for an existing service called Tuenti, which is a Spanish social network with a current 13 million users mostly based in Spain. This social network is owned by Telefonica with a majority stake. Today's launch is about making the current available service open to a worldwide user audience and participation. Furthermore, there are extra new features added which can be seen as a sign that it aims to compete with the giants of Facebook and twitter.
Following today's launch, Tuenti is now available in English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Dutch, Slovak, and Czech. The service design appears to be developed as a mash-up of a simplified framework when compared to Facebook and Twitter. It operates similar to twitter in the way that is are limited to 140 characters. In comparison to Facebook, Tuenti relates as adding status updates and photos “moments” in Tuenti terminology.
Today's statement by a Telefonica representative: “We’ve integrated a globally competitive messaging service with our core social network, while incorporating a uniquely simple privacy model that makes it easy for users to control what they share”, in a statement.
